Sound exceed my expectations for such a small speaker.
I had been researching wireless speakers for over two years as I am very picky. I have had several Denon receivers over the years, so decided I would purchase one HEOS 1 to test the speaker line out and this would be a good portable speaker given bluetooth. The main purpose is to use in a living room, so if I was only looking for a portable bluetooth speaker I would have purchased something else. This is just a bonus. I was skeptical on the sound quality given how small the speakers are, and this come from one that has mid-tier Polk speakers in my main listening area. The bass is surprising in such a small speaker; I did go into the equalizer and increased the bass to max setting of 5. Do not expect earth shaking as no speaker can replace a good sub, but it was more that I was expecting. One speaker can fill a medium sized room, which has 15+ vaulted ceilings. I suspect a pair would make the experience better, so considering adding another to confirm. I also upgrade my receiver to the Denon X4300 and love the capability to sync my two zones and 1 Heos speakers for parties. Also looking into HEOS 5 for the bedroom as I do love listening to music, but just can’t justify putting in a 5.1 system.
HEOS has issues with large song libraries
Speaker sounds great and coordinates well with my Denon AVRX-4300H receiver. Big problem though. I have a playlist with over 800 songs. Apparently HEOS has a limit of 300 songs. On random play, all songs below song #300 do not play. System needs work. Denon has not responded or even acknowledged my emails to support.
Difficult to use in Bluetooth Mode; Does not work over my office’s wi-fi network
The Denon HEOS 1 HS2 is my third Denon HEOS product (I also have a HEOS-enabled Denon AVRX4300H audio-video receiver and the older version of the HEOS 5. The HS2 is located in my office, where I am unable to connect to the office network (wi-fi) for some unknown reason. So, I have to resort to Bluetooth. Connecting to Bluetooth with my iPhone is hit and miss, and it takes a while, with several trials each day. I have to “forget this device’ prior reconnecting. The AVR is often unable to play streaming music from Pandora or from the built-in USB. So, the software is not really that consistent. There is no way to play music with the 1/8-inch mini jack cable unless you have the App working, and wi-fi enabled. This is really just stupid. I should be able to jack in any audio source, hit play, and have the speaker play the music.
Decent speaker, poor feature support
I purchased the HEOS 1 speaker with the intent of using it to extend the sound from my home theater system into another room. I already have a Denon HEOS receiver, and people here on Amazon confirmed that what I wanted was possible, so I bought the speaker.
Great product, great vendor.
I thought long and hard between buying a pair of these or the Sonos 1s. Both had unique features. I liked the battery operated Sonos, but the Heos are bluetooth, have an aux port and a USB port. In the reviews I read, sound quality was about the same. I bought two refurbished Heos knowing that if there was a problem Amazon would make it right. I also read that the app was a little finicky. Well, I really believe I made the right choice. Right off the bat, accessories4less delivered three days before the ETA. The speakers were in perfect shape, no scratches, no evidence of wear at all. I downloaded the app and the owners manual and they paired and played the first time. Sound quality is very good, especially at low volume. Although I read that the Sonos bass range is better, the Heos mid and high are very crisp and the bass is not forced. So I would highly recommend the HEOS 1 and was very pleased with accessories4less.
Definitely purchasing more Denon HEOS products
I read countless reviews prior to purchasing the HEOS 1 HS2 and finally decided to pull the trigger. I purchased 2 HEOS 1 speakers (refurb). Setup was straightforward out of the box. It took about 5 minutes for the speakers to receive their software updates. After that I was ready to listen. I initially set them both up in the kitchen just to see how the stereo pairing worked. Just one speaker filled the room with quality sound but running them as a stereo pair gives you an even better experience. Yes the EQ is limited but they still sound great. Disclaimer: i’m not an audiophile but I love music and I did renew my tidal subscription just to get HiFi sound out of these speakers.
You can use just one speaker as a mono (stereo-combined) speaker (which sounded OK) or you can buy two and pair them as a stereo set (I highly recommend this, and they appear a a single device …
As someone who works with sound as my full time job, I would not call these speakers ‘audiophile’ grade speakers, but I am very impressed with the build and sound quality of these speakers at this price point. They are very solidly, and have a bettter-than-average bass response for speakers this size. The mids are slightly muddy, but the highs are clean, and you can EQ the bass and high for each speaker individually with the app as needed.
which I really enjoy because I can play EVERYTHING on my phone through …
I’ve had this for a few weeks. This is the only speaker I have so far and I have been trying it out in my office. I can’t connect it to the WIFI as its a public wifi system for the entire office. However, I’ve been using Bluetooth, which I really enjoy because I can play EVERYTHING on my phone through it versus what the app will allow me to play (i.e. Sonos). The biggest use in this regard is Audible. I like to listen to my audiobooks through this speaker, something I couldn’t do with Sonos.
Returning due to malfunction
Very hard to connect to Bluetooth on my Samsung S8. It didn’t even show up the first few days. Now I can connect it but the music goes in and out (how annoying) and now, 7 days in, it won’t stay connected to Bluetooth for more than one song.
Stream and control with Alexa! Great sound
Unlike some reviewers, I have NEVER had a problem with this speaker losing its connection. It’s been a few months and it works and sounds fantastic. Far more bass than I expected. (It’s still a small speaker, don’t expect it to rattle your windows)
